My Trip to Chinese Porcelain Factories – Booming Industry after Ming Dynasty

ming-ceramics

After the Ming dynasty, most of the porcelain factories practically disappeared, owing to the preponderance of the Imperial factories of Ching-te-chen. However a small number of them subsisted, the most important of which were those of Yi-hsing (in Kiang-su) and of Te-hua(in Fuchien).

YI-Hsing Stone-ware orBuccaro.- The fame of the Yi-hsing factories (which were not very far from Shanghai), took birth under the Mings. The variety of clays in that country enabled the potters to make non-enamelled earthen-wares of every colour: red, chocolate-brown, shamoy and dark-brown being the favourite colours. Their most famous products were elegant tea-pots, but they manufactured objects of all kinds and shapes, even figurines. The decoration of those potteries consists in incised drawings, — often inscription — and in mounded or fixed relief (on which a gilding, probably a European addition, is occasionally found), and in the usual stamped ornaments for the brims. Open-worked objects are also found.
Certain objects, decorated with pink enamels, doubtless belong to the nineteenth century, for that style is continued up to this time. These potteries were Called ‘buccaro’ by the Portuguese, and are known in Europe under this Mme.

Te- Hua Factory(Fuchien) — Founded under the Ming dynasty, this factory, which is still working, attained an exceptional perfection in the manu- factory of those undecorated white specimens, known as the famous” Chinese White” of the eighteenth century. It is a fine and intensely vitrified porcelain; its thick glaze of a creamy white tone is occasionally roseate: it is then very highly prized. There is another milky white kind which is less beautiful. It is surely contemporary, for it is probable that those two different glazes do not imply a different date of fabrication. The Fuchien factory has dried over a large quantity of small objects, — libation cups, incense-burners, goblets, tea-pots, vases , and, above all, statuettes of gods, of which we possess’ a large variety.

Few of these objects only date back to the Ming dynasty in spite of their archaic aspect. Those of the seventeenth century more likely belong to Kang Hsi’s reign (1662-1722).

The Fuchien porcelain bears engraved or stamped seal-marks, which are most probably potter’s marks; marks of a reign are scarcely met’ with, but potters’marks, frets, swastikas, or other emblems are commonly seen. The small and very fine marks, stamped on the object before firing, are often illegible owing to the thickness of the glaze.

Te-hua did not exercise the monopoly of white porcelains; the imperial factory of Jingdezhen also manufactured them. They can hardly be distinguished from those made in Fuchien, although their aspect is harder and their tint slightly greenish or bluish.

The Beautiful Bora Bora in French Polynesia

If there is one thing that I love about traveling, it would be the fact that I get to step into another world, meet different people and marvel on the beautiful spots that the place has to offer. I realize that each place I’ve been to does not only hold remarkable views and activities, but also offer rich history that only the residents and the visitors can fathom. This was exactly how I felt when I stepped into Bora Bora in French Polynesia couple of months ago.

Bora Bora used to be the US naval base during Japan’s attack to the Pearl Harbor in 1941, which prompted the World War II. Residents of the place would have seen the horrors that the war may have caused in its land as they were surrounded by sea planes and gigantic naval cannons to protect it against Japan’s possible attack. Thankfully, the expected attack did not happen and some Americans decided to stay in the area to be forever mesmerized by its beauty.

I could not remember a single day without starting it with a sigh and a wish that I can somehow put those lagoons, blue waters and white beaches inside my knapsack and bring these to the city where I usually reside. There was never a day that I stopped marveling the sights that the island offers and never a day that I missed swimming in the seas. There are a number of small time companies that offer scuba diving with the sharks or manta rays or even feeding the sharks and you bet, I’ve tried all of these. Getting up-close with such striking creatures can trigger adrenaline rush especially when you see the shark’s razor-sharp teeth and gigantic mouth as it devours its meal. Such adventures were marvelous! But my adventures in Bora Bora were not limited to scuba diving or swimming or snorkeling alone as I was also able to go around the island, chat with lots of warm and gentle people in the place and get to know a lot of sun-kissed, beautiful women in the place.

When you see the island of Bora Bora in Pinterest, you will probably include it as one of your dream destinations before you die and I think it should be. Given of the islands’ clear waters, peaceful and exclusive beaches, clear and blue skies, rich aquatic life, fresh air and every refreshing factor that you can grasp away from the bustling life of the cities, you will surely thank God for creating heaven on Earth. Visit Bora Bora in the holidays and get mesmerized by this immaculate haven of exquisiteness like me.

Shenzen: The Economic Spot in China

There is no doubt that China has become a world leader in the global economy. The percentage of its goods being exported has risen for the past decades and it has also opened a variety of employment to its top workers who are both locals and non-locals. One can see that most manufacturers of goods in the sale and trade industry are mostly Chinese. Even reputable brands of ATVs like MvMotoSports are owned by Chinese. Even some of your clothing is probably made in China. Have you ever wondered as to where all these goods are actually manufactured given that densely populated places like China might not have extra rooms for more factories and companies?

Introducing Shenzen, China, a city in Southern China that is located north of Hong Kong, is dubbed to be the IT Center of the country or the spot where skyscrapers meet where all sorts of activities are being done that catapulted China into the top spot in the global economy. The city used to be a humble village until foreigners and locals joined to create partnerships and invested incredible amount of money in investments. Today, the place is called Special Economic Zones because numerous businesses of all sorts thrive in the area since 1970′s. The Republic of China then started to industrialize the area by opening several inland and coastal cities to become coastal economic and technology zones. Almost every decade since 1979, China had been receiving several foreign investments, even offering its border areas near the Yangtze River and inland areas for foreign investments. In 1992, its State Council welcomed all other foreign investments in its capital cities and its other autonomous regions. Today, statistics show that it now has 15 free zones, 32 economic and development zones, and 53 zones for high-tech and industrial establishments. Because of foreign investments, China was able to alleviate its economic condition as it started to enjoy foreign capital and increase of GDP or Gross Domestic Product to billions of yuan in just one zone alone.

What particular foreign investments and companies do Shenzen actually holds? What manufacturing companies thrive in the area? Here is a list of some of most popular companies in the world that are situated in Shenzen’s SEZ: ATI Electronics Co., Ltd., GA Lighting Limited, and Standard Electronic Company Ltd. Because Shenzen is surrounded by a hundred and more of universities, talented and trained workers are in the area, so foreign investors won’t have hard time searching for employees from other cities.

Falling In Love with St. Lucia South Africa

Who would ever think that a previous fishing village could turn into a peaceful paradise?

Even I was doubtful at first, but when I arrived at St. Lucia South Africa, all my skepticisms just vanished amidst the heavenly atmosphere of the place. Now I know how the place received a status of world heritage from the Unesco in 1999.

As I have previously mentioned, St. Lucia South Africa is a fishing village-turned-hot-spot not just for wildlife but even for adventurous tourists, counting myself in. The area has five ecosystems that lie within the park itself. The area is about 54 kilometers away from Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve, the oldest proclaimed wildlife park in Africa.

As I shall put it into my own words, St. Lucia brings a “parkcepcion” experience, as it is a park within a park, allowing us tourists to freely zone the place, have a walk in the forests or into another renowned park also within this park, the Isimangaliso Wetlands Park. I have come face to face with animals such as zebras, buffalos, leopards, antelopes, and myriad species of birds.

I must also say that the beaches are quite scenic destinations in St. Lucia. It offers warm tropical ocean water all year round, as the place is located in the Indian Ocean. I am also very fortunate to witness the gigantic whales that only come to the Indian Ocean once a year.

I also enjoyed horseback riding along the bushes as well as the beach rides that are available in the parks. Snorkeling in Cape Vidal is definitely also an adventure to remember, as I have come across various tropical fishes in the water. Though I haven’t experienced this one, I highly encourage interested visitors to try deep sea fishing. You just don’t know, you might catch a Marlin for dinner.

Indeed, St. Lucia brings heaven right at the southern part of Africa. To discover the wonders of the place and to experience the adrenalin rush that I have felt, better pack your bags and start to book a flight all the way to South Africa.
